Subterfuge
From FFa2Wiki
Social Skill
The Skill to lie and bluff. The character can hide their true intentions with finesse, and prevent others knowing their true motives. This Skill may be used as an Active Defence to increase the character’s Resolve against attempts to determine whether or not the character is lying or to conceal the character’s true motivations.
Lying
There are two significant ways in which a character can lie. The character may attempt to ‘sell’ a lie, attempting to make someone believe what the character is telling them, which is a Social Attack, or the character may attempt to use a lie to protect themselves, as an Active Defence (called Sincerity or Bluffing).
As a Social Attack, the character makes a Passive Roll, using Social + Subterfuge. Anyone who is listening reduces the Successes by the their Resolve to determine whether or not they are convinced. If the lies are truly outrageous, success simply means the listeners believe that the character believes what they are saying – which could destroy the character’s reputation (I’m telling you, the sky is green!).
As an Active Defence, the character adds their Subterfuge to their Resolve when they wish to resist an attempt to conceal their true nature. This includes resisting the Empathy Skill.
